John Samaniego is a lifelong supporter and defender of our Second Amendment Right. John believes the United States Constitution is very clear in the language of the Second Amendment, which states, “…the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
John Samaniego has long held an oath to protect, defend, and uphold the Constitution of the United States. As a man of faith and conviction, having sworn his oath before God, it is a duty that he does not take lightly.
John Samaniego also believes in safety and responsible gun ownership. As Chief Deputy, he developed the first Citizens Firearms Safety Course sponsored by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
A firearms familiarity course is also made available to members of the Sheriff's Citizens Academy
Sheriff John Samaniego has also hosted numerous Project Appleseed events at the Shelby County Sheriff's Office to assist residents and their families in learning more about marksmanship and the importance of our Second Amendment
Rights, with respect to our American Heritage.
Sheriff John Samaniego also launched a Hunter Safety course for first-time hunters. The course is hosted by Sheriff's Deputies, in partnership with Game and Wildelife Constables.
Under Samaniego's tenure, the Sheriff's Office has opened its firing range to the public to assist in properly sighting in their rifles at the start of each hunting season.
